Joep Truijen has his own way of making us reflect on our assumptions about other people. His on-site installation Facing Average confronts us with the average face, provoking a
conversation about the similarities and differences between people everywhere. Simultaneously, he blends machine learning and facial recognition technology, promoting the way in which these two media are to be used, namely neutral, objectively without prejudices. Facing Aaverage is a mirror of the collective rather than the individual, at a time when the
composition of society is drastically changing.
